Things I'm Loving Thursday : Gingham

Thursday, August 22, 2013

Gingham... it's sweet, sentimental, classic, and modern. Yep, I said it - MODERN! Gingham is making a comeback, ladies. It's no longer limited to that "country" style we are all used to associating it with, and I am super excited about it! Check out some of my favorite fresh takes on this old school print.

Easy DIY Pencil Skirt

Sunday, August 11, 2013

A pencil skirt is an article of clothing that looks great on everyone. I practically live in the stretchy knit kind during the summer, because they're easy to throw on, comfortable, and can be dressed up or down depending on what top, shoes, and accessories you pair them with. I started learning to sew this past winter so I am by no means experienced. I know how to do the basics. By basics I mean a straight line with a sewing machine. So when I saw this tutorial on Pinterest by Merricks Art entitled "The Easiest Pencil Skirt You'll Ever Make" my curiosity was peaked. I wasn't sure it would be that easy, but it turns out that I was way wrong. It really is the easiest pencil skirt you'll ever make.

With my handy dandy mother-in-law by my side (that's right, I called my mother-in-law "handy dandy") I was able to whip out a custom fitted pencil skirt in less than an hour. It would have taken even less time than that, but I decided at the last minute that I wanted to add elastic to the waist (the Merricks Art tutorial does not include those instructions... this is why my mother-in-law gets nicknames such as I used above :) ). The entire skirt including fabric, thread, and elastic cost $5. I just paid $20 at Old Navy for the exact same style skirt just a month ago before I found this tutorial. Never again! If you can sort of operate a pair of scissors and sewing machine then you can make this skirt.

Things I'm Loving Thursday : Summer Stripes

Thursday, July 11, 2013

Wearing and accessorizing with stripes during the summer never goes out of style! They are classic, sophisticated, fun, and trendy all at the same time. Plain and simple... nothing beats a stripe.

Things I'm Loving Thursday : Leopard Fashion

Wednesday, May 15, 2013

I love leopard print in fashion! Leopard can be used as an accent, as a print, or believe it or not as a neutral. It's true! Leopard goes with anything! Here are some of the leopard looks I'm drooling over for Spring/Summer 2013.

Cobalt + Mint

Monday, April 1, 2013

Blouse : Kohl's / Necklace : Charlotte Russe / Mint Jeans : Forever 21 / Booties :  T.J. Maxx

I love these colors together. I feel like they are unexpected and you wouldn't really think to pair them, but somehow they work. They made me feel good anyway. I guess it could be awful. In that case, don't tell me. Just let me go on being oblivious.

By the way, how great did my photographer (aka hot hubby) do on these pictures?! He's the best for putting up with all my "I think I look cute so take my picture" shenanigans. I'm so lucky to have found such a keeper. <3

Things I'm Loving Thursday : Pastel Fashion

Thursday, March 7, 2013

Spring is less than 2 weeks away! FINALLY! I love a chunky scarf and pair of warm boots, but I am very ready for this Midwest weather to warm up a bit. Plus I am swooning over so many of the Spring 2013 fashion trends! One of my favorite new fashion "do's" for Spring is pastels. This trend started last year when we saw mint green start to pop up here and there, but pastels are in full blown takeover mode now. Pastel pink, coral, and mint are the front runners for me, but I'm also loving pastel prints like florals. These are some of the looks I'm most fond of this Spring.

Things I'm Loving Thursday : Polka Dots

Thursday, January 31, 2013

Our prayers have been answered, ladies... Polka Dots are back in fashion! This is one of my favorite girly fashion trends of all time and I'm going to take advantage of every second that it's around! The last time we saw Polka Dots was 20+ years ago so wear 'em while you can cause they won't be back for awhile. So far I have a pair of polka dot pants, a polka dot scarf, and a polka dot button up. And don't you dare think I'm finished shopping for and sewing all things dotted! LOVE. THEM.
